FARMERS MARKET RULES

If you are a local grower, farmer, artist, or craftsman, we would love to have you participate at the Denton Community Farmers Market. Just review the rules below and contact us for an application. They can be paid at the Town Hall during regular busienss hours.

RULES
  1. Each vendor at the Denton Farmers Market must be certified as a producer by his/her local county Extension agent. If producer is a member of FFA or 4-H, their advisor must complete certification form. The certification form must be on file with the market manager to gain access to the market.

  2. When the market is operating 50% of the produce and plants offered each day, must be grown or produced by the vendor. Vendors may act as agent, employees or representatives for other farms as long as that farm is certified to sell at the market.

  3. Baked goods sold at the market must be produced by the vendor and the originating kitchen must be certified by the NCDA&CS.

  4. Other products must be approved by the market manager prior to sales.

  5. The Denton Farmers Market is open to producers in Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rowan and Stanly counties.

  6. Prices must be posted for all items sold and "Where the produce or items were grown"  All signs must meet market standards. All vendors must identify their farm/business name and location prominently each market day.

  7. No items may be sold which are unwholesome or unsound.

  8. All setups and displays must be removed by the end of the market day.  Setup begins one hour before the market opens and take down must be complete by one hour after market closes.

  9. Pets are not allowed in the market due to food safety concerns.  Exceptions are allowed for service animals.

  10. All products produced under certification such as 'Organic License'; meat,  poultry, or dairy products requiring inspection such as baked goods or canned foods, must be labeled and must display certification or license.

  11. All scales must be approved as "Legal for Trade". Anyone using scales must have them certified by the NCDA &CS.

  12. Vendors should not move vehicles in or out of the market area during market hours which are times that would pose a danger to people in the shopping area. Farmers market vendors must be parked within their spaces and all other vendors' vehicles must be parked off premises.

  13. The Farmers Market will be open Fridays beginning July 22nd from 2:00pm to 8:00pm ending September 9th and for some special market days such as a Fall Market or a Holiday Market as may be designated by the market manager prior to the end of the calendar year.

  14. For the safety and comfort of all, both buyers and sellers are requested to keep their children under control at all times.

  15.  Vendors selling at the Denton Community Farmers Market are expected to maintain appropriate behavior and dress.

  16.  Vendors offering value-added products (e.g. baked goods, jams & jellies, crafts) or produce they have purchased for resale must be  registered with the NC Department of Revenue, and their DOR certificate must be displayed in their market stall.  Crafts to be original, handmade by the vendor such as quilts, jewelry, photography, wood carving (i.e. bird houses), artwork, knitting, metal crafting, lotions/soaps and the like.

  17. The market manager is authorized to enforce all market rules. For the benefit of all, sellers are requested to abide by the above guidelines. Any problems that may arise shall be referred to the market manager. Those not abiding by the guidelines will be requested to leave the premises. 1st offense – the vendor will be asked to leave the premises and not return until the rules are met. If a rule violation is questioned, the market manager will investigate.  2nd offense – the matter will be taken before the Denton Farmers Market Board. This Board shall consist of the market manager, the three officers of the Market, and the Town of Denton Mayor or Commissioner who has been appointed as the liaison by the Denton Town Board.  3rd offense – the matter will be referred to the Denton Farmers Market Board, and the vendor may be suspended for the season.

  18.  All complaints must be submitted to the market manager in writing and signed. The manager will review the complaint with both parties and at least 2 board members to determine if a farm inspection will be required. If the vendor in question is in compliance, no action will be taken. The vendor will not be subject to complaint based inspections for a period of 30 days. If the vendor in question is found in violation of market rules they shall be suspended from the market for 60 days from time of inspection/determination.

  19.  The Denton Farmers Market manager will be appointed yearly by the Denton Town Board.
